Clara Frances Grant Ruestow
September 4, 1912-October 19, 2005

Clara Frances Ruestow, great granddaughter of Ulysses S. Grant, born September 4, 1912, to Ulysses S. Grant, III and Edith Root Grant, died on October 19, 2005 in Oceanside, New York. Mrs. Ruestow graduated from the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and completed her formal education at Bryn Mawr College in 1934.

Mrs. Ruestow served as Trustee of the Grant Monument Association (GMA). She was an enthusiastic participant in the GMA, whether it was to spearhead a family letter-writing campaign demanding restoration and protection of the Tomb in the early 1990s; or to participate in the GMA’s commissioning of the Monument Fanfare and Tribute, by Phillip Rothman, played for the first time by the United States Military Academy Band at the Tomb in 2000; or just to lend a hand with GMA’s mass mailings. She was proud to be associated with the GMA and grateful for the hard work done by the GMA to protect her ancestors’ Tomb. Mrs. Ruestow was also a member of The U.S. Grant Association, Carbondale, Illinois, and the Friends of Grant Cottage, Mt. McGregor, New York.
